Clay began his training at age 11 when he started training with PFS Senior Instructor Joe Soliz in Kickboxing. As the years went by Clay started training in Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu all under Joe’s guidance. Clay also began to travel with Joe to various seminars and training workshops to train with Paul Vunak. On March 27th of 2004, Clay received an Apprentice Instructor Certification under Joe Soliz. After that Clay’s curiosity and Joe’s encouragement to experience different arts and different instructors led Clay to spend about 2 years traveling all over the country to train with many instructors from various styles. Clay went to seminars and group training sessions under many well known instructors including Tito Ortiz, Frank Shamrock, Chung Lee, Tony Blauer, W. “Hock” Hochhiem, Richard Ryan, Walt Lysak, Mark Hatmaker, Michel DePasquale Jr., Bill Wallace, Joe Lewis, Jerry Beasley, Mike Lee Kanarek, Mike Swain, Renzo Gracie, and many more. During this time Clay was simply researching, sampling, and comparing. He trained with many people from similar systems and many that were completely different but he trained in them all with a very open mind simply to educate himself and learn what else was out there. After 2 years of sampling instructors and arts, he decided he had seen enough and devoted his time back to his roots of Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Martial Arts, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He resumed his training with close friend and instructor Joe Soliz and also began to train with PFS founder Paul Vunak in San Clemente California. On April 21 of 2006, Clay completed the 1st ever Executive PFS Instructor Training Course. At only 20 years old clay became one of only 50 people in the world selected by Paul Vunak to represent Executive PFS as a CEI or Certified Executive Instructor. Clay continued improving as a martial artist and an instructor as he began to teach small group classes and private lessons out of his garage. Clay taught a few seminars and taught a workshop for the Self Defense Program at Texas A&M University. In March of 2008 Clay opened the Tactical Defense Academy in El Campo, Texas. From there his interest of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu led him to the Gracie Family he began training at the Official Gracie Academy in Torrance, California and on May 12 of 2008 he received a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Instructor Certification from Rorion Gracie, Ryron Gracie, and Rener Gracie. Clay became one of the first 8 instructors in the world to be licensed to teach the all new Gracie Combatives Program. On September 28 of 2008 Clay received a Full Instructor Certification in Jeet Kune Do and the Filipino Martial Arts from Sifu Paul Vunak. Clay continues to teach and train as much as possible, always improving, adding, taking away, and evolving to the ever changing times.

Eric started training with Clay Pratka during high school. At this time clay was not yet teaching any group classes so Eric enrolled in private lessons which were taught out of clays garage. Eric quickly became clays number one student and was soon helping clay teach classes out of the garage as they started teaching group programs. During this time Eric also attended occasional classes and seminars with Joe Soliz. By the time that the Tactical Defense Academy was established Eric was already teaching classes on his own. He received and apprentice Instructor certification in Progressive Fighting Systems and trained heavily in MMA. After TDA had been open for about 1 year Eric left his job to work and teach at TDA full time. Since then he started training in the Gracie Combatives program first under clay then under the Gracie Family. On August 8 of 2009 Eric received and Instructor certification from the Gracie Academy to teach Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Eric recently competed in the N.A.G.A. Grappling Tournament and took 2nd place in his division. This was his first competition and we look forward to watching him progress as a student, a competitor, and a teacher.
